Station imaging has a bad habit of becoming furniture. The same sweeper, the same legal, the same promo bed that was funny in January and is wallpaper in June. Listeners do not complain. They just stop hearing it. That is worse.
Good imaging does three jobs in a few seconds: name the station, make a promise, and get out of the way of the next song. If it cannot do those, it is taking time you already sold to music.
Brand voice is not a voiceover
You can hire a famous throat and still sound generic. Brand voice is the vocabulary, the pace, and the attitude that would still be recognizable if you muted the drop. AC should not smirk like alternative. Country can be warm without being a greeting card. Write the rules down. Then record to the rules, not to the demo reel.
Sweepers, promos, liners — different tools
- Sweepers: position and pace. They should survive without a joke.
- Promos: one idea, a deadline, a reason to care. Kill them when the event is over.
- Liners: talent ammunition, not a second imaging package hiding in the studio.
- IDs: legal plus brand. If the legal is longer than the brand, rewrite the brand.
Refresh is a schedule, not a mood
The stations that sound alive have an imaging calendar. Weekly contest updates. Monthly sweeper rotations. Quarterly brand packages. Without that, production becomes whatever the PD remembered at 4 p.m. on a Thursday. A partner with ongoing imaging support exists so the calendar is someone else’s job — and it actually happens.
If your imaging could air on the competitor with a logo swap, you do not have imaging. You have a template.
PPG builds custom sweeper and promo packages, develops the brand voice with you, and stays on for contest and event imaging so the station does not go quiet between bookends. The seconds are expensive. Spend them like you mean it.
